The 7th New Asia Design Workshop held by 2023TISDC from May. 20th to May. 21st has come to a perfect end.
After the impact of the pandemic, the 7th “New Asia Design Workshop” finally took place from May 20 to May 21, 2023 at Asia University ! Organized by the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education (Taiwan), executed by the Department of Visual Communication Design of Asia University, and sponsored by the iSee Taiwan Foundation, Sayling Wen Cultural and Educational Foundation, and TPCA Environment Foundation (Special Award Sponsor), which designated a special award. Prestigious international designers, Takashi Honda from Japan, Akio Ogawa from Japan, and Panop Koonwat from Thailand, were invited as instructors for the workshop.
The workshop revolved around the competition theme “Compassion” and also extended the 17 SDGs sustainable development goals. Through the sharing of personal cases and design experiences by the three international designers, workshop participants were able to delve into their creative process and connect it with sustainable development goals. The instructors not only provided professional advice but also taught the participants how to transform their thinking logic when encountering design problems. The enthusiasm of students from different grades and fields who participated in the process resulted in a variety of great works through mutual exchange.
After the containment of the pandemic, a physical workshop finally took place. This workshop provided a valuable opportunity for international lecturers and participants to interact and collaborate in design. They discussed and brainstormed in this creative environment . It was a change for participants to have face-to-face exchanges with designers from Japan and Thailand, sharing their design perspectives and experiences. This cultural exchange experience not only broadened the students’ horizons but also deepened their understanding of design. With the excellent translation team, the thoughts and viewpoints of these lecturers were effectively conveyed to the participants, enabling them to better comprehend and absorb the professional knowledge shared by the international lecturers. In addition, the collaborative teachers were also present to assist the students’ learning, providing them with a comprehensive learning experience. An estimate of 50 students from 35 different universities and departments in Taiwan participated in the workshop.
The workshop lasted for two days, during which the students learned and exchanged ideas. In this short period of time, the participants gained valuable experience and knowledge through various practices and discussions. During the presentation session, the students showed their design works. These works not only demonstrated their creativity and talent but also made a close connection to the sustainable development goals, reflecting their concerns for environmental protection, social justice, and economic development. We believe that through this workshop, the students will continue to raise their creativity and contribute to creating designs that resonate with people’s hearts. After the successful two-day learning experience, this year’s workshop concluded satisfactorily, and we look forward to the participation and creative contributions of students in next year’s workshop!
