Taipei Municipal Songshan High School of Commerce and Home Economics
Established in 1946, the commercial school found its current location in 1952. It was renamed to Taipei Municipal Songshan Commercial Junior High School in October 1953. The Department of Advertisement Design was set up in August 1971. After founding the Department of Interior Design in 1993, the school finalized its name change to Taipei Municipal Songshan High School of Commerce and Home Economics (SSVS) according to Vocational School Law. With the goal of becoming a school that focuses on cultural and creative education, Taipei Municipal Songshan High School of Commerce and Home Economics aspires to cultivate skilled talent in accordance with the notions of multiple intelligences and nurture by nature. The development guidelines are listed as follows: One: Creating the Brand of “Cultural and Creative SSVS” With Cultural and Creative Education as School Vision With reading as the foundation for developing humanity literacy for students and implementing character education in life, SSVS respects the professional autonomy of teachers and encourages teachers to work as teams and improve themselves by learning from each other. Currently, SSVS offers various groups of disciplines, including commerce and management, design, and foreign language. It also promotes interdisciplinary and department-based curriculum so that students can choose what to learn based on their interests, aptitudes, and abilities. Moreover, SSVS continues to inspire and motivate students by providing platforms for them to develop a professional career. Eventually, Taipei Municipal Songshan High School of Commerce and Home Economics is set to create its own brand “Cultural and Creative SSVS” and make it sustainable. Two: Utilizing Teachers’ Professionalism and Offering Practical and Useful Curriculum 1. Develop featured curriculum with school vision and learner profile as the foundation in order to promote interdisciplinary learning, broaden students’ horizons, enhance their problem-solving skills, and eventually reach the goal of adaptive learning. 2. Encourage teachers to stay active in the community and participate in professional activities. 3. Encourage teachers to attend workshops and incorporate what they learn in the industry into their teaching. Three: Establishing Diverse Channels of Vocational Education and Broadening Students’ Horizons 1. Facilitate exchanges with overseas institutions and businesses to cultivate a global perspective. 2. Bolster cooperative education programs. 3. Encourage students to participate in all types of professional competitions. Four: Advocate a Balanced and Holistic Education 1. Emphasize fundamental education. 2. Develop student-based interdisciplinary curriculum and equip students with professional integration skills. 3. Continue to promote vocational and professional reading and develop in-depth thinking and humanity literacy for students. 4. Offer a variety of student clubs. 5. Implement a comprehensive career guidance system. Five: Creating an Environment for Quality Education 1. New art gallery spaces in the Department of Advertisement Design and the Department of Interior Design allow students and teachers to display their works. 2. The Story House not only allows students to express their design concepts, but also becomes an ideal venue for small lectures and activities. 3. The innovative design of the library transforms a place where books are stacked on the shelves into a green, artistic space with a cultural and creative theme shared by all, making it a better place for teachers and students to enjoy reading. 4. The campus-painting course from the Department of Advertisement Design decorates the campus with design and art. 5. The newly established fields, ponds, and rainwater recycling system help make the campus suitable for sustainable development. Six: Introducing External Resources and Enriching Learning Experience 1. Engage in curriculum project plans to propose for budget for equipment renewal and all forms of operation. 2. Maximize the benefits of professional skills through the strategic alliance with technological and vocational colleges: The strategic alliance with technological and vocational colleges facilitates collaborative teaching, project production, all types of competitions, university fairs, and other activities. 3. Introduce business resources through the collaboration between industry and academia and provide students with internship opportunities. (1) Summer banking courses at Taipei Fubon Bank (2) Summer internship program at National Taxation Bureau of Taipei – Xinyi Branch (3) Part-time job opportunities at notable accounting firms With the aforementioned guidelines, Taipei Municipal Songshan High School of Commerce and Home Economics aims to make sure our students know how to think, do, and market themselves. The students are also expected to have the following five capabilities: character, professionalism, innovation, mobility, and collaboration. With these capabilities, they can keep up with the needs of the fast-changing society and become the pillars of the society in all walks of life.
