Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID)
A constituent of Symbiosis International (Deemed University), Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) offers an undergraduate programme in design in four disciplines vis. Communication Design (Graphic Design, User Experience Design, Animation and Video Film Design), Industrial Design (Product Design and Interior Space Design), Fashion Design and Fashion Communication. The programme objectives, curriculum and pedagogy have been designed by a team of design academicians and industry experts with a pre-determined direction and specific objectives of various design departments. A balanced approach is followed to enable students to develop creativity, critical thinking, visual communication skills, hands-on experience with technology, and the ability to conduct design research in interdisciplinary and industry collaborations. Focus is given on industry-oriented learning and training through internships, course-relevant industry visits and technical application in projects. The curriculum ensures practices that increase a student’s future workplace competitiveness. Students participate in design competitions that increase their confidence and creativity, and it puts into practice the system of practical training. The programme endeavors to strengthen students’ enterprising and proactive learning attitude and narrative ability. Classroom projects and assignments focus on the design and development of consumer products of all types, fostering the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills as well as a solid grounding in all aspects of the design process. This makes the students more flexible in their approach and they find more than one area to fit into the industry. The well-rounded curriculum also draws students’ interest to issues regarding globalization and sustainability, which is the need of the present and future.
