Shih-Chien University

Shih Chien University, founded by Mr. Tung-Min Shieh, a statesman and educator, in 1958, has been adhering to the beliefs and philosophy of pursuing fundamentals and basics of everything and advocating pragmatism. The university’s teaching and researches are also practicality-oriented. In addition to maintaining the basic sprit of core essence and the overall goal of “exploring and popularizing the knowledge and abilities of life science and improving the well-being and meaning of life”, the school aims to be a university focusing on the practical teaching that integrates the five core values of “character cultivation, humanistic care, cultural creativity, industry demand and international vision.” The Design College of Shih Chien University, established in 1997, consists of four departments including Industrial Design, Communications Design, Architecture, and Fashion Design. A shared anticipation of Design College is to, to begin with, to foster a ‘designer’ through both the in-classroom and in-life learning, the diversified practices in all related areas, and the cultivation of humanities; then, move on to the expansion and integration of knowledge and past experiences intellectually and empirically to foster a ‘creator;’ and, eventually, to offer services on design development, transnational collaboration between industry and school, creation, and incubation, and to set up the best learning platform for a better and more professional creating, researching, and employment obtaining.
