National Institute of Design
Established in 1961, National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, India is ‘Institution of National Importance’ by the Act of Parliament of India. It is an autonomous institution under the aegis of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, and it provides world class design education, training, and applied research. With campuses in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Bengaluru, NID carries out its objectives through educational research programmes at both Bachelor’s and Master’s levels, under its five faculty domains (Industrial Design, Communication Design, Textile Apparel & Lifestyle Accessory Design, IT Integrated Design and Interdisciplinary Design) covering 20 specific design disciplines apart from offering a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Design. NID also undertakes Design Services, research projects and conducts short training programmes for government, social and industry sectors. The institute’s graduates are active globally, in all sectors of the economy and many have distinguished themselves in diverse fields such as textiles, product design, craft design and promotion, advertising, filmmaking, multimedia, automobile design, developmental communication as well as design education. In today’s age of rapid globalisation and the need for developing enriching interactions with premier institutes across the world involved in design education, NID is privileged to have the benefit of rewarding academic exchange relationship with 100 leading design institutions / universities across the world with the focus on Faculty Exchange, Research, Publications, Joint Workshops, Collaborative Projects and Student exchange.
