Ming Chuan University
Under the educational philosophy of “attending to all students with parental care, support and guidance”, Ming Chuan University (MCU) promotes the goals of Excellence, Professionalism and Internationalization, and defines itself as an international comprehensive university emphasizing teaching and applied research. MCU promotes Localization of Global Knowledge; Globalization of Local Knowledge and Industrialization of Knowledge and the Inculcation of Knowledge into Industry as the main axis of education development, assists students in achieving the goals of graduating into employment and connecting seamlessly with society. In 2010, MCU earned accreditation from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), making it the first U.S.-accredited University in Asia. The university comprises Schools of Management, Communication, Law, Design, Education and Applied Language, Information Technology, Tourism, Social Sciences, Health Technology, Financial Technology, International College and Institute of General Education. 36 departments and 8 separate bachelor’s degree programs, as well as 35 master’s and doctoral programs. The School of Design’s Smart School, is a comprehensive entity in northern Taiwan which integrates six professional departments, comprising the professional fields of cultural and creative, animation, graphic and product visual communication design, environmental sustainable development and digital architectural design, and urban area disaster prevention and mitigation planning. In recent years, the School of Design has won international iF Design Awards (German), Red Dot Design Awards (German), Adobe Design Achievement Award, Output International Student Award (Netherlands), Young PIN Design Awards of the YODEX (Young Designers’ Exhibition), International Times Young Creative Awards, 4A Creative Awards and other competitions. Moreover, its promotion and implementation of industry-university cooperation projects have all attained excellent results. There are five departments and one Program in the School of Design, including the departments of Architecture, Urban Planning and Disaster Management, Product Design, Commercial Design, Digital Media Design, and the Animation and Comic Creative Industries Design Program.
