A Look into 2019 Taiwan International Student Design Competition’s Promotional Campaign – Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Raffles College of Higher Education, & Temasek Polytechnic, April 11th

On 11^th April, 2019, the executive team of Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC) was led by the associate project directors, Prof. Ming-Lung Yu, Prof. Shi-Fu Lee and Lecturer Miira Lin, to promote this year’s competition at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Raffles College of Higher Education, and Temasek Polytechnic. Around 200 teachers and students joined the promotional events together.

The associate project director of TISDC, Lecturer Miira Lin, revealed that “Empathy” is the theme of this year’s competition and it’s a concept rooted in affective commitment. Thus, Lecturer Lin encouraged students to observe and think from different perspectives and most importantly try to stand in others’ shoes when facing and solving problems. These are also what designers should do when they do their design works. During the promotional event, Lecturer Lin, shared some of the winning works that TISDC received before with the attendees as well. Prof. Lee and Prof. Yu also encouraged students to actively participate in international design competitions, which is a good way to sharpen young designers’ design skills and broaden their horizons.  

Special thanks to Prof. Ngeup Khun Tan and Lecturer Yix Quek of Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Prof. Terrence Chong and Prof. Federico of Raffles College of Higher Education, Prof. Tai Pang Tan of Temasek Polytechnic for helping TISDC arrange the promotional events and invite all the teachers and students to join together. With their assistance and support, the promotional events had rounded off. We hope design schools in Singapore could keep following the news of TISDC and actively participate in the competition. We look forward to everyone’s excellent works.
